A website to support junior road safety officers was launched this week. The site, at www.jrso.com, provides information and resources for teachers and junior road safety officers, fun activities, competitions and links to other road safety sites. It aims to get senior primary pupils directly involved in road safety issues by giving them duties, such as maintaining a noticeboard, talking at assemblies and running competitions.

The junior road safety officers scheme, was launched last September by the Scottish Road Safety Campaign, in partnership with Standard Life, to encourage children to use the roads more safely.

Deputy Education Minister Nicol Stephen said: “It is vital that all children understand the importance of road safety and we are keen to reinforce the message using modern, interactive technology. This road safety website will also help develop the citizenship and leadership skills of junior road safety officers.”
