The Welsh bac has generated more interest in schools in European affairs - and why British beef is being exported to the continent again. Students learn about the European Union as part of the Welsh bac’s core programme of study on Wales, Europe and the world.

Now the Council for Education in World Citizenship Cymru says the rise in student interest has meant it is making more visits to schools. It uses cultural and sporting figures to open up debates on European affairs.

Next month, the council plans to produce activity sheets for teachers on subjects such as torture and human rights, designed as an introduction to exploring the EU’s role. The National Assembly’s European and external affairs committee has also been asked to make recommendations to Jane Davidson, minister for education, lifelong learning and skills, on how to improve citizenship education in Wales about the EU.
