Beef is back but not in Leicester

Leicester is the only city in Britain not to include beef on any school menu. The meat was banned after the 1996 BSE outbreak, but schools have chosen not to reintroduce it.

Tony Goodyear, the marketing manager of the Meat Commission, urged schools to reconsider their decision. He said: “Sales of beef are now higher than before BSE. It’s a good source of iron, zinc and vitamin D.”
