Behaviour is being worked on

I am writing in response to The TES Cymru front page (“Behaviour training is what heads want”, April 3).

We have every intention of including behaviour management training within an over-arching professional development framework. This was set out in the behaviour and attendance action plan. This will ensure it sits within an effective programme, doesn’t duplicate any elements of teacher training and development, and is sustainable.

A review will take place shortly of current training and development. In the meantime, the Better Schools Fund (BSF) contains Pounds 5m for local authorities to spend on pupil support, safeguarding and child protection. It’s important to remember that the BSF has allocated Pounds 15m over three years to train schools and their partners in promoting attendance and managing behaviour, along with activities to help promote attendance, positive behaviour and emotional health.

Jane Hutt, Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills.
