I would like to support the comments of Joan Fenton in your April 7 issue, specifically that play can be used as a method of teaching, especially in the outdoorswoodland environment.
Forest School has been established for more than 50 years in Scandinavia, and is now gradually being accepted in mainstream education in the UK.
It fits well with the aims and objectives of A Curriculum for Excellence, and it works by leaders assessing the learning styles of individuals and giving them achievable tasks which help them to gain confidence in themselves and those around them.
The benefits in day-to-day class work can be tangible, and lasting.
