A bent question

Bob Geddes, principal teacher of technical education at Shawlands Academy, was generally happy with Foundation, General and Credit papers.

His only concern was with question 1 of the Credit paper, which asked candidates to state the total length of material required to mount a wall bracket for a light. The question, he suggests, did not take into account that the wall bracket had to be bent and may have been problematic for some pupils.

In another section of the same question, dealing with metal lathes, the answer required candidates to state the tool was set too low - but as normally pupils don’t set the height of a tool on a metalwork lathe, they may have struggled to answer correctly.
