Holy Mackerel, it’s Batman’s birthday. On Radio 2 the BBC celebrates by examining the Bat phenomenon and how it has evolved from comic-book stories about a caped crusader to a multi-million pound merchandising and film industry.
Batman is now an American institution which blends folklore with culture. This programme will look at some of the not-a-lot-of-people-know-that esoterica: for example, the inspiration for Gotham City wasn’t New York, but somewhere closer to home. A village in Nottingham.
