Teenagers will study the psychology of fruit machine gambling in a revamped psychology A-level. The OCR exam board is introducing the topic into its course as part of a drive to make exams more relevant and interesting.
Pupils will learn about the addictive appeal of gambling and why regular gamblers behave irrationally by talking to fruit machines or blaming their losses on a lack of concentration. The new A-level course will be taught from September 2008.
