Adults are missing out on the chance to train, work or study because they cannot afford to pay for child care, claims the national charity Daycare Trust.
Closing the Gap, a trust briefing paper, claims that for every nine children nationally aged under eight, there is only one childcare place. The only option for parents is to pay an annual average of Pounds 6,000 for formal childcare or risk unregulated, informal care.
Closing the Childcare Gap: partnerships for action, is the fifth in a series of six Daycare Trust briefing papers. Copies are available priced Pounds 2 from Daycare Trust, 4 Wild Court, London, WC2B 4AU.
