THE national exam co-ordinator, has appealed to teachers and lecturers to be “realistic” about exam appeals later this summer.
After newspaper scare stories about the shortage and quality of markers, the “exams czar” has taken the unusual step of asking heads and principals to assure staff and candidates thatstandards are being maintained. But Colin MacLean signs off his letter with a warning that appeals should only be made where there is “a realistic prospect of success”.
“It will be necessary in some cases to explain to candidates and parents why an appeal is not appropriate,” Mr MacLean states.
