Balsall Heath: a History charts the development of Balsall Heath in Birmingham from a sparsely populated heathland in the 18th century to the busy, crowded suburb of the 1920s and 1930s.

Written by Valerie Hart of the St Paul’s Community Project, it costs Pounds 7.99 and forms part of a range of history resources the project has put together for local schools, including an artefact library, historical costume collection, history trails, videos of local trades such as metal spinning, and community plays based on local history. Further information: Dr Anita Halliday, St Paul’s Centre, Hertford Street, Balsall Heath, Birmingham B12 8NJ, 0121 440 13494376.
