A bit less of the small talk

Anne Thrope’s husband has left for London and Gregor Steele likes using a Kindle so that people can’t see which books he is reading. So what?

I buy TESS to read news, comment and analysis about educational matters - not for such worthless and uninteresting “small talk”.

Furthermore, I spend a large part of my day encouraging pupils to write and talk in an appropriate manner. I don’t expect to read unnecessarily unpleasant language (“My husband has just buggered off to London”) in TESS as part of what I can only guess is a feeble attempt to provide an amusing read.
