But the IfL has confirmed that those who fail to declare their continuing professional development (CPD) records for 200809 will not this year face more serious sanctions that might, ultimately, have lead to them losing their licence to teach in a publicly funded institution.

Toni Fazaeli, IfL’s chief executive, said that letters of advice would be sent out over the next few weeks to those still to declare.

“The letter will be supportive in nature and it will be noted on people’s IfL record,” Ms Fazaeli said.

“Next year that group of people will receive special attention, support and encouragement regarding declaring their CPD.”

About 70,000 FE teachers and trainers are still to declare how they fulfilled their mandatory 30 hours of CPD for 200809 having failed to meet the deadline at the end of August last year.

The IfL extended the deadline to January but this resulted in only a few thousand more people declaring their CPD out of the 188,000 eligible to register.

People wil be able to declare their CPD for 200910 from June and the deadline will again be August 31.
