Schools in Blackpool have been helping to create a major community arts project which will be staged along the town’s famous seafront over the coming months.

Pupils from Palatine School and Claremont Primary School have helped to produce installations themed around light, in reference to the Blackpool illuminations.

The venture is part of the city’s Regeneration Arts Project, which is funded by the Arts Council England, and will feature dancers in giant perspex pods, bicycle-powered illuminated sculptures and light boxes made of recycled plastic.

Palatine School took part in light experiments using torches, colour filters, projections and silhouettes, while Claremont Primary pupils helped to create “street beacons” by designing and building light boxes.

Artist Jessica Lloyd-Jones said: “Each group participated in unusual light experiments and created their own artwork designs for an exciting exhibition.

“This has been a great opportunity to inspire and creatively engage the community in an art project that references Blackpool as a place of energy, life and illumination.” RV.
