I would like to correct the impression given by the title of your article “Let’s blame the parents” (TES, January 19). This wasJbased on my research paper, “Repairing and rebuilding teacher-student relationships”.

The heading and first paragraphJmisrepresented the content of the paper.

Any incident in a classroom is the outcome of accumulative interactions, both in and out of school, and although some students do begin with an early disadvantage, teacher responses either modify or exacerbate difficult behaviour.

The title is particularly galling as my work is focused on the development of school communities in which blame is discouraged in favour of more helpful approaches. I am happy to forward the paper to those interested in its content.
