Your story “BNP councillors target schools as key battleground” (May 22) has outraged the Anti Academies Alliance.

The BNP says it opposes the academy proposals in Stoke. But its reason is not that it wants “a good local school for every child”, but that it wants to prevent ethnic and religious integration. In some areas, the BNP has attempted to appeal to voters by claiming to oppose academies. The Anti Academies Alliance wants to make it clear that while we want the widest possible campaign against academies, the BNP is no part of our campaign.

We do not believe an organisation that promotes intolerance and discrimination and scapegoats refugees, Muslims and Jews, lesbians and gays can possibly believe in a good local school for every child. The BNP can only make our society, and therefore our schools, more divided. Its politics can play no role in defending our schools.
