Many schools are accustomed to open evenings to entice parents, but now one is using them to attract new staff.

Rivington and Blackrod High School, near Bolton, is using the unusual method to let potential employees “get to know about the school, what it’s like to work here and what we are like as an employer”, according to deputy head David Waugh.

The secondary school has a history of hosting such occasions. Last year a similar event was held in a bid to recruit a cover supervisor, resulting in 112 people attending and 107 applying for the position.

The school believes that this is not only a good recruitment method in the short term, but that it has long-term benefits.

There are only three vacancies currently open at the school, but Mr Waugh said that the aim was to “inspire people to want to join our team”. jk.
