While 13 to 16-year-olds queue up to judge the Booktrust Teen Prize (see the shortlist in the news pages of today’s TES), Booktrust is launching its annual trawl of primary schools to find young judges for the Nestle Smarties Book Prize, now in its 21st year. Primary classes in three age groups will be invited to apply in September to help choose winners from the shortlists (three books for each age group) chosen by panels of adult judges. Last year 1,000 primary classes took part. Those who submit the best book-themed work will be invited to the awards ceremony before Christmas. Look out for the mailshot early next month, go to www.booktrusted.co.uk or telephone 020 8516 2986.
