As Joseph Lee referenced in his editorial on immigration (“Immigration paranoia only impedes success”, 29 April), the Government has produced no real evidence to support its compliance arguments across the various sectors. Indeed, how could it when the UK Border Agency (UKBA), following the introduction of the points-based system, has not inspected universities or most FE colleges for compliance with the current “highly trusted status” requirements.

In addition to the work restrictions during study time, the post-study work restrictions, combined with significant increases in fees, will act as an enormous disincentive to overseas students, who will simply choose to go and spend their time and money elsewhere.
