Heavy snow hindered schools in North Yorkshire too, where the staff of Sinnington primary school had planned a big night out for teaching assistant Doreen Sleightholme who is leaving this small rural school after 35 years.

Doreen has filled most of the official jobs at the school - cook, dinner lady and caretaker - while unofficially she has “found lost wellies, pulled loose teeth and quieted many a nervous new entrant” (teachers as well as pupils, no doubt). We hope she has a great send-off - snow permitting - and that our Waitrose hamper makes a special treat for the staffroom to mark her last day.

The hamper (pictured right) usually costs pound;46 and is available exclusively from Waitrose Direct Gifts, at www.waitrose. com, which delivers to any mainland UK address. For a chance to win one, just tell us why you and your colleagues deserve it. Send your message, marked Waitrose offer, by email or postcard to the address on the right.
