Boxing academy aims to give students a fighting chance

Former world featherweight boxing champion Barry McGuigan opened a Boxing Academy at Stockport College last week. The academy gives students professional coaching while continuing their full-time education at college. It aims to use non-contact boxing programmes to give teenagers disenchanted with education enhanced self-esteem, ambition and confidence. Mr McGuigan said: “Currently, there are close to one million young people nationwide not in education, employment or training, I strongly believe that young people need help, someone to believe in them and find their talents.”
