BOYS are to be the key targets of a government campaign to cut the high rate of under-age pregnancies in Britain, the public health minister Yvette Cooper announced this week.
The British teenage pregnancy rate is the highest in Europe. In an interview with The Mirror newspaper, she said: “One of the most important things will be to fous on teenage boys because they are half the problem and half the solution.
“It is the girls who are mostly left holding the baby. We have to look at ways of making boys recognise the consequences.”
A network of 150 co-ordinators is being set up in each health authority area to advise teenagers on pregnancy prevention.
