pt = Crack the code
Each letter in these calculations stands for a digit: AB x CD = EEE E x CD - AB = CC
What is the value of: AB x D
SOLUTIONS Crack the code (ages 10-14): AB x D = 74. EEE must be a multiple of 111, which is 37 x 3. So either AB or CD is 37, and the other number must be a two-digit multiple of 3 (12, 15, 18, 21, 24 or 27). Trying the possibilities systematically shows that if AB = 37 and CD = 12, then ExCD- AB is 4 x 12 - 37 = 11. So D is 2 and AB x D = 74.Lucky for some (ages 5-7): The pins must be different since there is only one of each number.
There are six different ways to score 13: 8, 4, 1; 8, 3, 2; 7, 5, 1; 7, 4, 2; 6, 5, 2; 6, 4, 3.
