Odd jobs

Six children did odd jobs for 1 hour.

How long would it take for 4 children to do half the odd jobs?

AGE 11-14

School library

There are 16 tables in a school library.

Nine screens have been used to divide the library into 4 study areas containing 3, 3, 2 and 8 tables.

The librarian wants to rearrange the 9 screens to create 3 areas with 4, 6 and 6 tables.

What is the smallest number of screens that could be moved to achieve this?

SOLUTIONS

Odd jobs

Six children took 60 minutes to do the odd jobs.

Six children would take 30 minutes to do half the odd jobs.

Two children would take 90 minutes to do half the odd jobs.

Four children would take 45 minutes to do half the odd jobs.

School library

Only two screens need be moved.
