Nang (adj)
Means: Excellent
Usage: “That party was nangin’,” “You look nang in that dress”
You could be forgiven for thinking the Yoof are forever “dissing” or “negging” their contemporaries, but there are, in fact, plenty of Yoofspeaks used in praise. Nang, which started out in east London at the turn of this century, is thought to be from a Bengali word for a naked woman. According to “Yoof” expert Tony Thorne, the word was quickly picked up by Yoofs everywhere as a substitute for those delightful Yoofspeaks “sick” or “brutal” as a positive affirmation. Discerning yoofs, who want to be particularly complimentary, might even say something was “bare nang”, reflecting the word’s roots. Tired of saying something was “bangin”? Try nangin’ instead. There is even a glossy magazine put together by teenagers called Nang!, sadly giving it the badge of respectability that almost certainly means it is on its way out, only to be replaced by some other unlikely term.
