Out of Africa: BBC Education is supporting the channel’s new drama series Rhodes with two resource packs for teachers. The first is a multi-media combination of video, audio, teachers’ notes and maps called Cecil Rhodes and the Legacy of Empire. It can be used for a variety of age groups and includes footage from the series, archive material and newly-recorded interviews.

It aims to offer a variety of interpretations of events which led to the decline of the British Empire and raises questions about who writes history. The pack will be available soon and the provisional price is Pounds 46. 99. The second resource, Cecil Rhodes in Southern Africa: a viewer’s guide is an illustrated booklet, which sets the geographical and historical landscape in which events took place, including some of the less well-known episodes of Southern African history. Pounds 4.95 including postage. Details: Angie Mason, Room G400, BBC White City, 201 Wood Lane, London W12 7TS.
