In an attempt to allay the fears of primary school children about to transfer to secondary school, the London borough of Lewisham’s education department has distributed a 12-page, full-colour comic to its 3,000 primary pupils. Called Big Change, it looks at pupils’ anxieties about bullying, homework, drugs and friendships, and is based on a project at Hither Green Primary School where children were asked to talk about their transfer worries and then discuss the reality with pupils from Northbrook Secondary. The comic was produced by the council design unit with sponsorship from the Home Office Drugs Prevention Initiative.
