The association says at least six nanny agencies have launched their own registers and in some cases have persuaded nannies to pay more than Pounds 100 to join.
The registers will not have the power to prevent an unsuitable nanny working, argues the association, which is campaigning for a national compulsory register.
Tricia Pritchard, the association’s professional officer, says any register operated by a nanny agency poses a conflict of interest. “We would question the value of having several registers,which will offer little more than the inclusion of a nanny’s details on a database of names and addresses.”
