* The BBC has produced a series of video packs designed to help primary teachers make better use of schools broadcasts. “Using Television and Radio in Primary Classroom” covers English, mathematics, history, geography, music and dance, with individual packs for each subject.

Priced at Pounds 25, the packs contain three BBC schools programmes for the appropriate subject on video, with notes and overhead transparencies for use in a group. Information from BBC Education, BBC White City, 201 Wood Lane, London W12 7TS.

* Carlton Television is offering schools in the London area a free media and English pack, showing how a news story, the protests against the M11 extension, develops from the first inquiries to final transmission on the London Tonight regional news programme. Aimed at secondary pupils, it contains a video following the making of a news broadcast, study guide and contact addresses.

There is also a competition being run in conjunction with the pack, with schools being invited to produce a five-minute video of a news report, in the style of London Tonight. The prize offered is Pounds 750 worth of video equipment and the closing date is June 30. Details from Carlton Television, 101 St Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4AZ.

* A weekly current affairs video is being offered to schools, using material from ITN news reports. For Pounds 10 a week, Video News for Schools will send a 30-minute selection of the week’s big stories, with a synopsis and information. Details from Video News for Schools, Rivermede, Vine Cross, Heathfield, East Sussex TN21 9HB.
