The authors argue for a radical restructuring of education to reverse what they see as a drift away from the core pupose of education: the individual's learning. Once this becomes the focus of school organisation, other changes become possible, they say, predicting that in the 21st-century school, "neat organisational boxes of subjects and times will be scrapped" and leadership will become "the possesson of the many and not the prerogative of the few".
