GCSE FOOD TECHNOLOGY FOR OCR. Heninemann Pupil’s book pound;11.25 Teacher’s Resource File pound;29.99

These publications for the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR) course are packed with information, charts, work sheets and planners. The pupil book contains all the information needed to cover the short course, and if following the full course, extra material is supplied in the teacher’s file.

A useful addition to the pupil’s book is a “key points” section, handy for helping lower ability pupils, or for quick revision. Aspects of information and communication technology and industrial practices are highlighted, indicating how they have been employed or offering opportunities for further investigation.

Cross-referencing is used extensively between both publications to ensure appropriate coverage.

All the tick-sheets, information and tasks necessary to get through the OCR course are here.

EASY PEASY: Real Cooking for Kids who Want to Eat. By Pru Irvine and Mary ContiniEbury Press pound;12.99

This well-produced cook book uses excellent photography - useful to get pupils motivated and stimulated about food. It starts with the premise that recipes should be easy to make and delicious, and brings exciting dishes to life.

From explaining how to boil an egg to making “see in the dark” soup, the book shows how to make a variety of dishes.

Although not intended for the school market, there are some useful ideas for the classroom, for example, as a basis for product development in food technology work.
