Brighter outlook

If it wasn't for the sun's heat and the earth's rotation there would be no "Hello, there" trademark from Heather Reid, BBC Scotland's top weather forecaster.

She regretted that students did not make the link between school physics and exciting areas such as meteorology and the study of volcanoes.

For the record, over any 24-hour period, the forecasts are now 86 per cent accurate.
