Where have all the home economics teachers gone? I can think of no other subject that has been so successfully hijacked by the national curriculum with not so much as a whimper from its subject specialists.
But Robert Newton (“Technology has eaten up food”, TES, Letters, October 3) can take heart. There are still some of us trying to teach the skills needed for a healthy life style.
For almost two decades, most pupils have left school with a wonderful insight into the industrial practices of producing food but alas little affinity with the real thing. How unfortunate.
