While Dundee’s education committee endorsed the Government’s target-setting agenda, it also supported the education department’s view that analysis of a school’s performance should go beyond lists of statistical data.

“Schools are concerned to help pupils to reach their full potential in all aspects of their development,” the council’s strategy paper states. “They will therefore seek to encourage academic, sporting and cultural achievement. Only by taking a broad view of attainment can we ensure that the potential of each pupil will be fully explored.”
