Artswork course on using the arts with young people will be held at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel. Speakers include: Estelle Morris MP, minister of state for the arts; Sir Ken Robinson, expert on creativity and education; and Chris Smith MP, director of the Clore Leadership Programme.

“Eight” represents some of the different youth arts markets, eg young people, youth services and Connexions, training and education agencies. Operation Overlord, the 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy, involved co-operation between the naval, air and ground forces on an unprecedented scale. Sixty years on, Imperial War Museum North on the Manchester Ship Canal in Trafford is telling the stories of the military personnel and civilians involved through film screenings, performances, special tours, school workshops and a photography exhibition.

Pupils aged 10 upwards can discover magicians’ closely guarded secrets and the scientific and mathematical principles used behind the scenes at magic shows with a distance learning programme offered by the College of Magic.

This exciting introductory tour of 15 lessons ranges from close-up magic to the grand illusions of the stage. On successful completion, students graduate with a diploma. Prizes for lessons on radioactivity

The British Society for the History of Science is inviting GCSE and A-level science teachers to submit lesson packs containing three single lessons on any aspect of the science of radioactivity. They should include guidance, activities, background notes, worksheets and resources list. Closing date: June 11. The prize fund is pound;500 and the winners will be announced during BSHS annual conference’s education day taking place at Liverpool Hope University on June 25.
