JULY 7-11 INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICA SYMPOSIUM

This conference for users of Mathematica software in research, education, industry and commerce, is held every two years and is returning to England (Imperial College London) for the first time since 1995. Speakers include Stephen Wolfram, creator of Mathematica; John Nash of A Beautiful Mind fame, Nobel laureate and pioneer of non-co-operative game theory; and Roman Maeder, world expert on programming in Mathematica. Training courses will be held prior to and following the conference. Early registration fee: pound;260. SEXUAL HEALTH: GET ACTIVE

Free conference comprising presentations, speeches, music, drama and video organised by the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health for young people aged 14-18 and professionals working with them. PAINTED LABYRINTH: THE WORLD OF THE LINDISFARNE GOSPELS

Find out how one man on a remote island (Bishop Eadfrith of Lindisfarne) dedicated his life to a single masterpiece in the early 8th century. In pride of place in this British Library exhibition is the original manuscript, alongside jewellery, coins, sculpture, textiles and other artefacts. Visitors can handle the complete facsimile and view the illustrations on the digital display. Free admission.
