One reason more of Britain’s children are becoming obese is that they eat so many convenience meals they rarely see fresh produce or know where it comes from. To combat this, The Guild of Food Writers is running a cooking campaign featuring leading chefs and food writers taking part in demonstrations, taste trials and school visits. For the competition, entrants aged eight to 14 are required to devise a two-course meal costing up to pound;12. Closing date: February 21. The cook-off final will be held in London on March 23. Prizes include: a gourmet trip to Italy and a cookery course in Northern Ireland.
