A baboon, a crocodile and birds of prey are among the exhibits at the Animal Mummies of Ancient Egypt exhibition at Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum in Tring, Hertfordshire. Mummification was carried out to preserve pets and to make religious offerings. Activities include “peer inside and find the fake” using X-ray technology and there is an accompanying programme of key stage 23 workshops and events.

Imagine arts project

The Ashmolean Museum has joined six other museums and galleries across Oxfordshire in a year-long creative partnership between schools, local communities and visual arts organisations. The extensive programme of artist residencies includes workshops with local schools led by Michael Condron, who will focus on the Ashmolean’s collections. All artworks and projects will be digitally recorded on the Imagine website and selected work exhibited at the Imagine Show, at Modern Art Oxford, September 7-28.

The project is funded by the Arts Council and Oxfordshire Council.
