Ancient Greek Festival June 3-4

The International Ancient Greek Festival will take place at Watford Grammar School for Boys. Organiser Paul Allen runs an education service, Breath of Life, providing day-long activity programmes on the history of Ancient Greece, Rome, the Saxons, the Vikings and the Normans.

National Insect Week June 19-25

The Royal Entomological Society is calling on teachers to raise awareness of insects. The Week will be launched in London by BBC Springwatch presenter Kate Humble. A website includes teaching resources, details of the DfES’s Growing Schools programme and instructions on how to make an insect garden, take part in surveys and make a giant dragonfly.

Voice conference July 3

The Voice Care Network and the International Centre for Voice are holding a conference called “Why do teachers need voice training?” at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London NW3. Speech and language therapists will explore the importance of the voice in teaching.

Photo competition Closes June 23

People aged five to 17 learning about the Countryside Code are invited to photograph people enjoying the outdoors. The winners of the four age categories will receive a Tudor Halina digital camera and will be exhibited in a photographic studio. Free education packs are available.

The touring exhibition, 1001 Inventions: the Muslim Heritage in Our World, now at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, has an accompanying online secondary pack. The project emphasises how ancient Islamic scholars have made extensive scientific contributions. Teachers who fill in the pack evaluation form will be entered in a draw to win two copies of the 1001 Inventions book.
