CONGRATULATIONS, finally, to the Local Government Association which declares itself for the abolition of torture in schools.
The LGA has been advising schools on how to implement the Human Rights Act 1998, which enshrines the European Convention on Human Rights in British Law. This law, we are solemnly reminded, includes the prohibition of “inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” - torture to you and me.
“Mistreatment must be severe,” the LGA admits, but urges heads nevertheless to consider it in relation to protecting pupils against bullying. Thanks, folks.
