DEALING WITH BULLYING IN SCHOOLS. By Mona O’Moore and Stephen James Minton. Paul Chapman Publishing. Cloth pound;60paper pound;19.99

This excellent book begins by dispelling some myths, hoping to offer schools constructive ways to tackle this deep-seated problem.

The authors only use “bully” as a verb and clearly explain their “no blame” philosophy - and their focus on “constructive and rehabilitative solutions”.

The book’s introduction is followed by four chapters addressed to different groups in school: management, staff, parents and pupils. Each starts with an overview and has a concluding summary, and guidance is given on writing a whole school policy.

There are anti-bullying strategies and advice for parents and children.

Clear courses of action are set out, including some for parents whose children are bullying others, and there are photocopiable training resources in the appendices.
