Bunking myth of boarders

I WAS surprised to read the article on our boarding myths competition as the reporter had not read the essays (TES, January 24). The Boarding Schools' Association was delighted with the students' responses that indicated their enjoyment of boarding.

It is fiction that the children found boarding "difficult or bewildering" and as Alison Potter, a boarder at New Hall school, said, "a little disappointing that boarding is so often looked on as only for those who have been abandoned".

One boy did remark that he had been "sent away" by his parents. You did not, however, report his final comment: "I am forever in their debt".
