Bureaucratic blight of the GTC

Carol Adams is deluding herself about so-called success with the bureaucracy she has spawned (“GTC leader bids farewell to her baby”, TES, October 20). No one else could be so complacent and self-congratulatory about the unaccountable and expensive apparatus she has brought about. Most teachers care nothing and know nothing about the General Teaching Council.

Most of those who have had dealings with it loathe this pettifogging, self-serving parasite on the teaching profession’s body.

I know two teachers who have been brought before the council and, despite being eventually cleared, suffered years of stress and career blight. Ms Adams has revived the medieval witch-hunt.
