I have just been told that the bursary we are able to offer those wanting to train as secondary mathematics teachers has been cut to Pounds 325.

Just two years ago I was able to inform applicants to our two-year degree course that there was a bursary of Pounds 1,000, and it was not that long ago that a bursary of Pounds 1,500 was available.

How on earth does the Teacher Training Agency expect us to be able recruit more teachers when the rewards are cut so drastically?
