Hutchesons’ Grammar has taken to the streets to advertise open days with a campaign on the back of FirstBus 38 vehicles, plying their trade from leafy Eastwood Toll to the rather rougher Garthamlock.

Passing as it does through Giffnock and Newlands, once prime Hutchie recruiting grounds but much plundered by East Renfrewshire competition, the adverts might prove just the ticket for the fee-paying school.

Less so perhaps in the more socially-challenged east end, not hither- to known for its Hutchie potential. Happily, the smaller print declares that bursaries are available. It gives a whole new meaning to “Hutchying a ride.”
