The article “Teach primary kids to make money, says college boss” (22 November) struck a chord, because eight Newcastle primaries have recently formed a charitable learning trust with four local business partners: Newcastle International Airport, the John Lewis Partnership, Northumbria University and Newcastle City Council.
Launch day for the Newcastle North West Learning Trust included taking a group of children to visit each partner. In-house staff explained the nature of their business and its relevance to the region. This expertise will add value and help to engage the trust’s 2,500 children through real workplace examples.
Ongoing contact with the partners will ensure that there is no shortage of advice and ideas. Newcastle’s primaries have been outperforming schools nationally, so by combining resources, expertise and experience with its partners, the trust has an opportunity for even greater success in the future and to encourage budding entrepreneurs in the making.
