STILL in cyberspace, or thereabouts, an unseemly row has broken out over just what to call all this computer business.

Just as we were getting used to calling it IT or information technology, we were told it should be information and communications technology. No less than David Blunkett said in last week’s curriculum review we should use the acronym ICT “to avoid the confusion caused by the use of different acronyms”.

Alas, the National Association for Co-ordinators and Teachers of IT has complained - presumably not just because they don’t want to change their letterhead. They fear more confusion will follow, and claim a confusing difference between IT the subject and ICT the teaching resource.

A thoroughly confused Diary wishes they’d all just log off.
