(Photograph) - ‘The Economic Cycle’ by Keith Newstead is part of a collection of more than 100 individually handmade contemporary mechnical toys on display at the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre, 33-34 The Market, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8RE.
The mechanisms of the automata - which include a cat licking some milk, a man eating spaghetti, an agriplane and a submarine - vary considerably in size and complexity. They are all in full view, so teachers can easily explain how they work and inspire pupils to make their own. Some spring to life at the touch of a button, others by the insertion of a coin. The Cabaret Mechnical Theatre is open daily. Admission: Pounds 1.95 adults, Pounds 1.20 children and concessions, and 20 per cent discount on group bookings of 10 or more.
