What a choice specimen of self-advertising impertinence was the excommunication by one Martin Rainsford, head of Edmonton comprehensive, of old boy Norman Tebbit for “forgetting” the “values” inculcated by his former school of “service to the community”.

Mr Rainsford celebrates the “community” of an ideological herd; Lord Tebbit believes in positive colour-blind patriotism. It is high time not only that “multiculturalism” were freely opened to democratic discussion, but also that pompous prats in offices turned their magisterial pronouncements more courageously upon such real problems as the establishment in Britain of blacks-only “schools” by the American-based “Nation of Islam”.
