A more diverse teacher workforce is needed to raise the achievement of black and ethnic minority children, according to Sashi Sivaloganathan, vice-chairman of England’s General Teaching Council. She said: “Schools must reflect the diversity of their local populations, and children need to see these teachers as positive role models and an inspiration.”
